Cadillac CUE – “Don’t Take Your Eyes Off the Road”
GM engineers originally used a gel bonding agent to attach the touch glass to the outer plastic layer of the Cadillac CUE screen.
Unfortunately, this gel tends to dry out over time. It either hardens or evaporates completely after a couple of years.
Once the gel is compromised, the system can no longer accurately detect touch input. Symptoms include:
- Loss of touch functionality
- Random or erratic touches
- A cracked or “spiderweb” appearance on the screen
The only permanent solution is to replace the original display with a gel-free touch screen.
