Jeep Compass and Renegade: 7" or 8.4" Uconnect Screen? How to Tell Before You Order

UAM is not one screen. It is the sales code for the Uconnect 4/4C hardware family used in the Jeep Compass and Renegade, and that family includes two different screen sizes: a 7-inch display and an 8.4-inch display. They are not interchangeable, and ordering the wrong one is one of the most common mistakes owners make on these vehicles.

Why the Same Vehicle Can Have Either Size

Compass and Renegade trim levels determine which Uconnect hardware ships from the factory. Lower trims typically use the 7-inch display, while higher trims with additional infotainment features use the 8.4-inch display. Model year alone does not tell you which one you have. A 2019 Compass and a 2019 Renegade can each be built with either screen depending on trim and options.

How to Confirm Which Size You Have

Measure your screen diagonally, corner to corner, before ordering anything. This is the only reliable way to confirm size. Do not rely on trim name alone, since trim lineups and equipment have changed across model years.

If you already have the old screen out of the dash, the part number printed on it will also confirm which assembly you have:

Resolves the same category of failures, plus symptoms tied to the larger unit's added functionality, such as climate controls or audio changing on their own from ghost touch.

Both are complete, pre-bonded LCD and touchscreen assemblies. Neither requires programming or dealer calibration. Both carry a 2-year warranty with a Lifetime upgrade option.

Why Getting This Wrong Is Costly
