No GPS / Red Circle Issue on Cadillac CUE

No GPS/ Red Circle Issue-Cuescreens

We often receive calls about GPS problems, such as the red circle with a slash through it. While frustrating, it's important to understand this issue is not related to the Cadillac CUE screen or its replacement.

Understanding the CUE System

The CUE screen is simply a clear glass digitizer—it doesn’t display images or handle GPS. Its only job is to register touch inputs. If it's malfunctioning, you’ll notice unresponsiveness or erratic behavior when you touch it. That's it.

The Red Circle GPS Issue

This GPS error may appear around the same time you replace your screen, but it’s purely coincidental. Replacing the touch screen again will not fix the problem and will only waste time and effort.

If you’re seeing a red slash through your GPS icon, it means the antenna (typically mounted on the roof) is not communicating properly with the system.

Troubleshooting Steps

  • Wait it out – Sometimes the GPS signal will return on its own.
  • Check the weather – Cloud cover or satellite unavailability can cause temporary loss.
  • Drive in a figure 8 – Refer to your owner's manual; this can help reset position tracking.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the battery – This can reboot the GPS module.
  • Inspect the antenna – Look for water damage, corrosion, or a loose cable connection. If needed, replace the antenna or cabling.

If the issue persists for several weeks, inspect the antenna connection closely. Corrosion or a poor seal can interrupt the GPS signal.
